Fans that attend Bridgestone Arena for the Predators vs. Blackhawks playoff game Thursday night will be able to experience Beacon technology for the first time.

Beacon technology allows a fan’s smartphone or mobile device to detect signals via the beacons installed by Radius Networks throughout the arena. The Predators will be just one of a few teams to use this new technology at Bridgestone Arena.

At each event, these beacons, all 200 or so of them, will be programmed to send exclusive content straight to the fans mobile device that passes that location. So depending on where fans are seated or where they are walking, the content they receive will differ.

The content sent by these beacons will consistently be changing so fans will never really know what they will be receiving from them. One game, fans may receive coupons, the next time, they may receive a look at an exclusive video. This makes for a unique and fun technological implementation for both the fans and the team who benefits from an overall happier fan base.

Fans attending the game can easily access the Beacon offerings by downloading the Smashville App and enabling its proximity services. The downside is that only iOS devices work with the beacons at this time but Android and other devices will be compatible in the near future.
