Dutch navigation and mapping company TomTom is heavily invested in wearable technology and fitness trackers, competing with the likes of Fitbit and Garmin.
Following Apple’s announcement last week of its Apple Watch Series 2 and Apple Watch Nike+, that may stretch to the tech giant as well.
“It’s interesting to see Apple thinks the same thing as us,” TomTom co-founder Corinne Vigreux told Wareable.com on Friday. “In the keynote Apple made a big thing about how you can run without your phone, I think a lot of it is similar to our first product. So there was a bit of flattery there.
“We’re thinking in the same way as far as this market is concerned. They are also a lot more expensive, so that reassures me as well.”

According to Wareable, Vigreux cited similarities between the Series 2 and the Runner, TomTom’s first watch, the Runner.
“Nike has been struggling with hardware, that’s been one of the issues they’ve had,” she said. “Sports technology will help the world of sport and I think that collaboration is not completely unexpected. Tim Cook sits on the Nike board, so that kind of makes sense.”
Just last week, TomTom unveiled a new fitness tracker which includes a body composition reading. As a result, it will be easier to calculate how much muscle and fat is in one’s body. The TomTom Touch will officially launch in October.
