Real Madrid Launches 360-Degree Virtual Reality Channel For TV, Mobile

Fans of Real Madrid will be able to watch Cristiano Ronaldo score goals and give amped-up locker room speeches in virtual reality on their TVs.

That’s due to a partnership the La Liga and UEFA Champions League winner signed with The Dream VR, which creates a dedicated channel for VR content watchable on mobile and TV, according to an announcement by the team last month. With the partnership, Real Madrid will receive its own channel within The Dream VR app that fans can visit for insider, immersive views of the team in different scenarios and locations. According to Real Madrid’s announcement, the club will create new content on the platform each month.

From The Dream VR’s perspective, the company adds a brand in Real Madrid that is world-famous and has been widely successful.

“We are proud to have on board not just the best football team in the world, but also the most famous sports brand as to date; we are honored to be leader and pioneer in launching the first official 360º/VR channel of the team, whereby its fans will be able to find tailored exclusive contents and live incredible immersive experiences,” Albert Palay, The Dream VR’s CEO, said in the company’s announcement of the partnership.

Though The Dream VR’s announcement claims Real Madrid is the first sports organization in the world to start its own 360-degree VR channel, it would appear that La Liga rival Club Deportivo Leganés actually started what could become a trend among sports teams looking to further engage their fans.

But fans of either squad can now see more of their team through a number of mediums, including Apple TV, iOS, Android, Oculus Rift and Samsung Smart TV, and The Dream VR plans to expand its service to more platforms in the future.
