It doesn’t matter which NBA team you have an allegiance with, it is tough to hate Steve Nash. His career is a remarkable one that might never be duplicated in today’s internet age, where every top prospect is identified and followed from age 13.

What a lot of people don’t know, though, is who Steve Nash is as a person. He wears many hats, from his life on the court to his significant philanthropic activity to his life as a family man.

This is about to change — in a new documentary aptly named “Nash”. This movie is not taking the typical production cycle, however, as directors Michael Hamilton and Corey Ogilvie have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $30,000 in funding to market “Nash: The Documentary.” The directors have stressed that they don’t want any funding from anyone within Nash’s camp.

The producers were given unprecedented access into Nash’s personal life and were able to get footage that normal fans wouldn’t ever be able to see. Thompson describes their pitch on the KickStarter page:

Our goal was to make a film that explored how one man’s vision, drive and determination helped shape a global brand on and off the court while staying true to himself and those around him.

But getting Steve to agree and allow cameras to follow him throughout periods of his life was always our initial challenge because of how humble and somewhat private he is. Even though we understood how unique and special Steve’s journey was I think our other challenge was convincing Steve that there were others just like us that cared about who he was and what he stood for.

Thankfully, Steve agreed and we were granted exclusive permission to document not only never before seen footage of Steve’s life on and off the court, but access to those teammates, family, and friends that have always supported him.

The film also offers commentary about from celebrities such as Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Baron Davis, Snoop Dogg, Yao Ming and NBA Commissioner David Stern.

There is no bigger name though then President Barack Obama, who also offered his insights on Nash for the film.

“I think you’re measured not just by your skill or your fame or your wealth, but by your character,” President Obama says in the film.  “I think by that standard, Steve is going to do very well.”
