Fans living in the UK received a special event hosted by the Jacksonville Jaguars to expand international interest in American football. The Jaguars revealed JagTag Live at the London Fields in Hackney on September 27th.
JagTag is a simplified version of American football, much like touch football or touch rugby. It is simple to play and people of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.
The free-to-enter event included coaching sessions for participants to get an introduction to playing the game. The coaches helped with basic throwing and catching techniques. JagTag also had interactive NFL games, free giveaways, and competitions and a special appearance by the Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleaders. It was an engaging experience for both kids and adults.
“I think it’s awesome that the Jaguars have taken the time to create JagTag, a version of American Football for the UK that can be played by everyone,” said the Jaguars safety, Sergio Brown. “I’ve played football since I was a kid and touch was how I got introduced to the game so I have a lot of fond memories of it – it’s where my journey began. You can just play it in the backyard or in the park with your friends and family and it’s so easy to play. All you need is a ball and a few people and you’ve got yourselves a game.”
Great day, thanks to everyone who joined us! #JagTag http://t.co/Mejw8iYk71 #BeJaguars pic.twitter.com/euNuYoQvVQ

The event attracted many people who have never played American football before. They were introduced to a simple format of the game. And because of the positive feedback, the NFL can look forward to hosting more events like JagTag Live and spreading the NFL brand beyond the U.S.
It seems that recently the Jaguars have been spending much of their time in the UK. There were reports of the Jaguars owner, Shahid Khan, looking into moving the team full-time to London. Although JagTag Live was a huge success and there are NFL fans in the UK, they do not want the Jaguars. Fans are without a doubt excited for the NFL making its way across the pond, but it will take time. As the U.S is gaining interest in the World Cup, the same thing is happening in Europe with the NFL.
It will be exciting to see the turnout of UK fans at the next Jaguars event in London when Jacksonville will play the Buffalo Bills on October 25 in Wembley. But before the overseas game, grab a few friends, a ball and get outside to play JagTag.
