The “Buy now” button for the Microsoft Band redirects to a general website. The Microsoft Band official Twitter account has been silent for more than a month.
Microsoft’s fitness wearable device for the wrist could be on its last legs, as a company spokesperson offered this statement to ZDNet on Monday:
“We have sold through our existing Band 2 inventory and have no plans to release another Band device this year. We remain committed to supporting our Microsoft Band 2 customers through Microsoft Stores and our customer support channels and will continue to invest in the Microsoft Health platform, which is open to all hardware and apps partners across Windows, iOS, and Android devices.”
After the Microsoft Band 2 was announced last October, a Microsoft Band 3 might never come. The current fitness tracker included an optical heart rate monitor and GPS while measuring calories, sleep quality, and even floors climbed.
But even after a $75 price reduction, the device didn’t appear to catch on in a market that has been flooded with fitness trackers of all kinds.
