Premier League "long table": where does your team REALLY sit?

One handy way to extend a lead is to win when your rivals aren't playing. The League Cup final caused postponements for three of those teams grasping at Chelsea's coat-tails: Arsenal were due to visit Southampton, while Manchester City were supposed to host their dear neighbours... so the leaders' win over Swansea re-opened a 10-point chasm. With Chelsea relentless, Tottenham's stroll past Stoke looks less of a marker for a title chase than a bid to be Best Of The Rest. Liverpool might have gone third but their loss at Leicester throws them back in the chasing pack with the three rivals who now have a game in hand. Wins for Everton and West Brom keep them suspended in the 15-point gap between sixth and ninth; the most important result for both Toffees and Baggies this weekend was Manchester United's Wembley win denying Southampton a Europa League place. The Saints stay in the also-rans and are now 14 points behind the seventh place that should guarantee Europe – a big ask considering they've only won 30 points in total. Thirty points looks like luxury for the strugglers. Leicester and Palace got nearer with vital wins, but they're all still a startlingly long way from the 40-point breathing space... as the Long Table clearly shows. More features on FourFourTwo.com
