duracell technology nflThis little tidbit is most likely unknown to all but the most hardcore sports fan: more than 650 Duracell Quantum batteries are used in a single NFL game.

See that headset Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll is wearing or the helmet Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson wears?

Yup, those are powered with Duracell batteries.

Duracell Quantum batteries are used to power devices that keep the coaches in constant communication with each other and the players on the field while running a play. Referees also use them to communicate with the fans about any violation they see on the field.

This season Duracell is beginning its new “The Trusted Battery Power of the NFL” campaign by giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at how the batteries provide essential power on game days. Two stadiums are set to be locations for interactive tours that highlight moments where Duracell affects the game, for example, the national anthem before kick-off.

“We are proud that the NFL trusts Duracell Quantum to power those critical devices, so their teams can focus on the plays at hand,” Jeff Jarrett, Marketing Director for Duracell, told Business Wire.

As a marketing campaign, it is good for both the NFL and Duracell. Football fans that learn about Duracell and the job they do at providing the battery life for the devices used throughout the game will be more likely to consider using that same battery for their own devices.

For the campaign, two new spots were released featuring Wilson and San Francisco 49ers’ Patrick Willis in the same theoretical situation, but in an offensive and defensive perspective. The premise for the ad is a game-changing decision that is made possible by coach-to-player communication through the devices powered by the Duracell battery.
