While watching tonight’s game four of the NHL Eastern Conference semifinals between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals you might wonder what Alex Ovechkin is wearing on his lower back (see photo above). It looks different than any other player on the ice.
Well, it turns out it’s just his tailbone pad. Some (most) players tuck their jerseys inside of it and some don’t depending on preference. In this case, Ovechkin prefers the tuck.
Ovechkin has sported the Bauer One95 hockey pant that includes MAX SORB spine protection, which is a combination foam and gel material designed for high-impact areas like the back that require a high level of energy displacement. We’re waiting to hear back from Bauer to confirm what he’s wearing today.
