Virgin Sport Backs Stylish Ring That’s Also A Fitness Tracker

Virgin Sport, founded by Sir Richard Branson, will soon kick off its inaugural U.S. Festival of Fitness in San Francisco and has partnered with Motiv, creators of the fitness, heart rate and sleep-tracking, Motiv Ring.

Virgin Sport is testing out the ring  leading up to the SF Bay Half at the Oct. 14-15 Virgin Sport San Francisco. The Motiv Ring meshes well with Virgin’s overall goal for the event. Worn as a ring unlike many other wearables, it syncs to your smart device and has a battery that lasts typically three days. While wearing it you can track distance traveled, steps, active minutes, sleep duration and much more. It’s set to start shipping by the end of the summer.

“Technology, to us, is the big enabler in bringing people together,” said Mary Wittenberg, Global CEO of Virgin Sport, during a May conference call.

The goal of the Festival of Fitness is to bring fun to fitness. Participants can choose from a range of activities like the SF Bay Half, Twin Peaks Mile or take free classes at the Go Fit Yourself lineup.

“You shouldn’t have to choose between form, fit and function,” reads the Motiv website. “Wear Motiv Ring continuously for the insight you need to become more active and improve the quality of your sleep.”

The idea behind the device was to create something that the user would never want to take off.

Virgin Sport SF will be giving away plenty of prizes, including a Motiv Ring, during its sweepstakes.
