Sport TV, a Portuguese network, will launch programming that relies upon the Video Assistant Referee system in soccer to provide the content.
Juízo Final is a program that will feature an analysis of multi-angle replay images of goals, fouls and other controversial decisions as Primeira Liga has been using VAR.
Included in the discussions are former referees in Pedro Henriques and Arnaldo Cezar Coelho.
“SPORT TV wanted to clearly show its contribution to this system and the sport, becoming the first television station in the world to invest in this technology and to allow the fans to form a more sustained opinion, based on facts, always keeping in mind the official rules of football that lead to the final decisions,” CEO Nuno Ferreira Pires said, according to the Daily Mail.
“The VAR is a huge step for the sector of sports, and, in particular, football, and SPORT TV is proud to innovate in an area of unequivocal strategic interest.”
The VAR system could very well be implemented on the biggest stage, as FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said that it will be decided next month whether it will be included in the laws of the game and used in the World Cup.
