On July 9th, the Sydney based company Disrupt announced that they expanded their 3D customizable printing of surfboards across Europe. They will now distribute sets of customized bespoke surfboards by using 3D printing technology which will allow for specifically created boards and artwork to be tailored for consumers.
To this point, Disrupt has produced 1,500 surfboards across Australia and Asia and now has the foundation to expand to European markets.
One of the main differentiating elements of Disrupt is its ability to let surfers order the exact surfboard they want, down to precise specifications. Disrupts use of 3D printing tech offers the surfer with the power to build a board that suits his or her personal needs.

Disrupt’s expansion to European markets offers access to a new market of surfers whom the Disrupt team feels will respond well to their customized offerings. Co-founder of Disrupt, Gary Elphick told Future Sport, “The UK has a strong surfing scene and we’re very excited to launch here to expand across Europe. Jason and I are both surf enthusiasts who found there wasn’t a means of expressing our individuality on our surfboards, without it costing a small fortune. That was the inspiration to set up Disrupt and it’s gone from strength to strength. For us the benefits are three-fold: it’s about educating people about how sports equipment is made and designed, innovating in a sector that badly needs it and celebrating peoples’ expression of creativity. Our vision is to have every board printed using additive 3D technology, so that files can be developed and printed anywhere in the world.”
For their products to reach full marketing potential Disrupt has decided to partner with the outdoor brands Wavelength and Animal. Furthermore, Disrupt is not only looking to tap into the surfing scene, but also plans on expanding their products to sports such as Rugby and Cricket.
