It is time to forget those cheap, beaded jump ropes you were forced to use in gym class. The future of jump roping is upon us with Smart Rope.
The Smart Rope is embedded with 23 different LED lights, which count and display the number of jumps you have made in your time. The LED lights go off at different times, to end up with a perfectly synchronized end number. Check out the video below to see it in action—it looks as if the numbers are floating in mid-air.
The rope counts up to four characters, so as long as you do not surpass 9,999 jumps in one session, the rope should work flawlessly. Additionally, the sensors inside the handles have a Bluetooth radio that send the jump count, amount of calories burned and the time spent to the Smart Rope app on your smartphone. In future versions the Smart Rope, will illuminate calories burned, interval training metrics as well as certain symbols that show successful jump roping maneuvers.
The app also comes with a social dimension to it, so that you can stack up your workouts against friends. You can even set goals for yourself and the app will track the percentage of the goal that you have completed.
The rope does have to be charged, taking about 2 hours. The Smart Rope is priced at $90, so while it is a very cool device, it is fair to say that these won’t be replacing the standard gym class jump ropes anytime soon.
