Monday morning quarterbacking is a classic phenomena. Football fans fall into the trap of thinking they would have called better plays, after a loss.
Now, with a new app announcement, fans will have the chance to actualy see how they stack up against real NFL coaches when it comes to X’s and O’s. The Be The Coach app will begin beta testing during tonight’ Monday Night Football game.
The free app is available on most mobile, tablet and desktop devices. Users will have their first shot at play calling tonight when the New York Giants visit brand new U.S. Bank Stadium to take on the 3-0, Minnesota Vikings. Fans will make calls as if they are Giants play-callers, head coach, Ben McAdoo and offensive coordinator, Mike Sullivan.

RII Sports Technology is behind the new app, which uses their GameBreak Scouting Dashboards and Call Sheet Optimization technology. Fans call offensives plays against live defensive schemes, in real-time. Users do not simply guess what plays the actual coaching staff will call, they call their own offensive plays. Their calls are then scored based on how effective their play would have been, utilizing actual NFL game tape and data.

Some of the same RII Sports propriety technology used in the app, is used by some big-time college football programs such as Baylor University, Oklahoma State and the University of Arizona. They developed the football technology used in the Be The Coach app over the last 15 years, while working with tech titans like NASA and Lockheed Martin.
NFL coaches have to choose schemes, personnel and call plays while factoring in time, score and down and distance. Now fans can try to do the the same.
Users will utilize three different tools to help call plays: an offensive dashboard, defensive dashboard and a call sheet template. All of these tools are designed to help fans call plays in real-time. These tools essentially do the preparation and game planning that an entire NFL staff would do. Fans have to choose four different groupings on every play: personnel, run/pass, run/pass concept and run location/rout concept. The app is not yet quite as complex as real NFL offensives, as there are no option plays.
Be The Coach provides users with a vast of amount of play calling options to choose from. Fans will also use a scouting dashboard for instant access to the situational defensive tendencies of their opponents. The app is still in beta testing, so fans should not expect the best user experience. But they will be able to test their football knowledge and play calling skills, with real results. Fans also compete against each other, to see who has the best overall score at the end of the game.
