Technogym supports disadvantaged communities in Rio de Janeiro through international initiative and equipment donation
New York, NY – Technogym, the world’s leading wellness and fitness company, and the Official Supplier of state-of-the-art fitness equipment for the past six Olympic Games, including the upcoming Rio Games, is pleased to announce “Let’s Move for Rio,” a new social campaign that will take place during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games aimed at supporting Rio de Janeiro through equipment donations to local fitness facilities.
Together Olympic athletes training in Rio and fitness enthusiasts from around the world will use the Technogym app (available to download from iTunes, Google Play) to track their physical activity or MOVEs, Technogym’s unit for movement. By using Technogym fitness equipment and downloading the Technogym app, participants will log their MOVEs that will ultimately help work towards donating fitness equipment to 22 public gyms in some of Rio’s most disadvantaged communities. People can start donating MOVEs from July 24, in conjunction with the opening of the Olympic Village in Rio.
With every 75,000 MOVEs collected, Technogym will donate one piece of equipment provided from the Olympic training facilities to community gyms selected together with the Empresa Olimpica Municipal which is part of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. Essentially the more Olympic athletes and individuals participating, the more equipment Technogym will donate. By launching the “Let’s Move for Rio” campaign, Technogym also hopes to contribute to the post-Olympic fitness and wellness legacy in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
“As the Official Supplier for the past six Olympic Games and the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games, we wanted to concretely contribute to the legacy of the post-Olympic movement,” said Nerio Alessandri, Technogym Founder and CEO. “With ‘Let’s Move for Rio,’ Technogym hopes to be able to give back to Rio de Janeiro and create a lasting impact in the city that will be felt for years to come.”
In addition to the “Let’s Move for Rio” campaign, Technogym, as the official equipment supplier, will equip 15 centers for Olympic athletes to train prior to and during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, including the main training center located at the Olympic Village in Barra da Tijuca and 14 training centers located at specific competition venues. Over 12,0000 state-of-the-art pieces of Technogym equipment will be made available to Olympic athletes including the SKILLMILL, the world’s first non-motorized functional training machine, Excite cardio equipment, and Kinesis, which enables 360° movement and over 200+ functional training exercises, and more.
In addition, Technogym will also support several of the world’s best champions at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Technogym ambassadors include but are not limited to international tennis star Rafael Nadal, San Antonio Spurs player and Italian national basketball player Marco Belinelli, and Jamaican-American track and field medalist Sanya Richards-Ross among others.
