Sqor Sports Ventures Into Europe As They Partner With Bayern Munich

Sqor Sports is a social media platform that is dedicated specifically to sports. The San Francisco based company recently expanded their reach by moving into Europe, agreeing to a deal with German soccer power house FC Bayern Munich.

Sqor, Inc. was founded in 2011 by Brian Wilhite, as a social platform exclusively for sports and sports fans. The company officially launched in 2014 after raising $25 million in funding. Since then they have grown to reach over one billion sports fans.

The social platform, which is available as an app for mobile devices or online, aggregates athletes existing social accounts from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram all in one place. Users can then follow specific teams and athletes for updates, news, and scores. There are a few features that separate this app to entice fans to join and not just follow the other social accounts of their favorite players and teams, interaction. AthleteChat allows fans the opportunity to chat online with athletes who use the platform. GameChat allows Sqor users to interact with each other in real time about a game or a team in one place.

FC Bayern Munich is one of the biggest soccer clubs on the planet, and they are looking to continue to capitalize in the world of digital and social media. The team was the highest rated soccer club in terms of popularity in digital media in China, this past year. Now, after partnering with Sqor Sports, they have the opportunity to engage with fans around the world and maybe more importantly in the United States; perhaps the final frontier of global soccer outreach and monetization.

Andreas Jung, CMO of FC Bayern Munich spoke highly of their partnership with Sqor. “The U.S.-established platform is now coming to Europe, and FC Bayern will use it right from the start…We have built our club’s reputation on providing world-class football, and we’re excited to work with Sqor Sports to bring FC Bayern even closer to our loyal fans…”

The social platform also allows athletes, teams, and brands an added benefit aside from fan engagement that others do not: revenue sharing. Users who partner with Sqor have the opportunity to sell exclusive merchandise and memorabilia in their shop section. Teams, athletes and, brands also are able to profit from other revenue generating aspects of Sqor.

The social network has partnered with over 1,500 current and former professional athletes from all across the world of sports. Tim Lincecum was the first big name Sqor added to their roster. Since then Brett Favre has become a huge part of the company, even promoting them on The Tonight Show. His memorabilia and exclusive sportswear collection are a main part of the online shop.

Athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB, Champions League, and many more are currently members of Sqor, where they can interact with fans and engage in revenue sharing. European soccer stars David Luiz and Marcelo are also prominent athlete members, and as partners they have the ability to share exclusive content with their fans.

As Sqor continues to build their presences and strong connections in the world of sports, their partnership with Bayern looks to give them a boost in Europe and leg up, in the ever more globalized world of sports.
