Company: BodiTrak Sports
President: John Thorp
Headquarters: Winnipeg, MB
1. What is your elevator pitch?
BodiTrak Sports is a sports technology company focused on the interaction between an athlete and the ground. We build tools to help coaches and athletes better understand their ground mechanics to improve performance and avoid injury.
2. Problem & Solution
Across sports, the interaction between athlete and the ground is vital – it has been studied and analyzed in research labs for decades. Our products bring that insight to the professional coach in an attainable and insightful way.
“I have every piece of technology in my studio, but if I had to pick one to help a high handicapper I’d use the BodiTrak.” -PGA Tour, Instructor, Scott Hamilton.
3. Market – your target market and the overall market
Current Market: the coach or training professional (golf, baseball, health) who uses technology to better understand and improve athlete performance.
Future Market: Planning dual product track with release of consumer-friendly versions.
4. Business Model – how do you make money?
Currently, our revenue comes entirely from sensor hardware (MSRP of $2,000).
We also generate revenue from OEM partnerships.
5. Management Team
John Thorp – President
Terry Hashimoto – VP Business Development
Robert Golden – CEO
Andrew Frank – COO
Bruce MacFarlane – Chairman
6. What else do you want the audience to know about your venture?
Core to our company is the belief that simply providing another data stream is not helping the sports industry. We assemble the leading minds to our advisory boards.
This ensures our data is presented in insightful, actionable ways, but also that we lead the industry with video-based instructional content.
We recently launched a partnership with FootJoy, the leading golf footwear brand on a first-of-kind footwear fitting project. It is a natural partnership between two leadership brands, bringing attention to the role of the ground in the golf swing and defining golf footwear as equipment.
And we are getting great feedback those who truly understand the game. “Understanding my players’ interaction w/ the ground with Boditrak has been a game changer. We use it on the PGA Tour range each week – even minor adjustments in how golfers use the ground can pay big dividends.” – Mark Blackburn
Bonus Question: If you were to invite any CEO to dinner who would it be and why?
John Foley, CEO of Peloton. Peloton has built a dynamic sports technology business that combines hardware, subscription content and in-person experiences. They have used hardware to become a subscription content pipeline, with a tremendously passionate community. I feel that BodiTrak’s future will involve many of the same customer pillars.
