Sparta Science, which has technology aimed at predicting and preventing injuries, has announced its first partnership with an English Premier League club in Stoke City F.C.
The deal means that Stoke City will use Sparta’s software platform, SpartaTrac. This platform is paired with a force plate, which is used to scan athletes within 60 seconds. From this analysis, SpartaTrac calculates a performance score, which is personalized and this is compared to a database of over 10,000 athletes. An app is then used to log activity and monitor progress.
Of the new partner, Phil Wagner, CEO and founder of Sparta Science said in a statement: “This partnership marks our first with an English Premier League club, and we’re eager to apply nearly a decade of learning from teams across all American major leagues to what many consider the world’s most popular league.”
Sparta Science already works with a host of American professional teams across a number of sports, teams include the Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Falcons and San Jose Earthquakes.
Andy Davies, lead strength and rehab coach, at Stoke City said in a statement: “We needed to have an objective and simple system that we could sell to players and coaching staff, and the clarity that Sparta Science’s system gives us keeps us from getting buried in data that doesn’t matter, coaches and players know what they need to pay attention to.”
Joe Allen, midfielder for Stoke City and Welsh international player also commented: “Since we’ve brought in the Sparta Science system, we have been able to refine our morning training programs, which has helped increase my availability, as I’m sure it has many of the team.”
Stoke City is the second oldest professional football club in the world and currently sits just outside of the relegation zone, with 16 points from 18 games this season.
