Social Media Analysis Data On Every MLB Team That Shares A City With An NHL, NFL And NBA Team

In the world of sports, all eyes are on the Olympic games in Rio. However baseball fans will need to stay tuned to MLB for their dose of America’s favorite past-time, as the sport was removed from the Olympics (but will reportedly be brought back in 2020 at the Tokyo summer games).

In the U.S., there are thirteen cities and metro areas with at least one team from all four major professional sports: Football (NFL), Baseball (MLB), Basketball (NBA), and Hockey (NHL) including: Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Ft.Worth, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco Bay Area, Washington D.C.

Using analysis provided by Unmetric, a brand-focused social media intelligence company, the content strategies of these teams across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram were analyzed garner insights from a deeper set of metrics. Unmetric uses a combination of technology (sophisticated algorithms) and human analysis to help marketers uncover actionable insights. Unmetric’s engagement score assigns posts a score from 0 to 1,000, depending on the amount of user interactions.

For part three of our series with Unmetric, the report below examines MLB teams. As far as audience size, growth rate and engagement, it’s a battle between the Big Apple and the Windy City – with the Yankees, Cubs, White Sox and Mets leading across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. When it comes to replying to fans on Twitter, the Detroit Tigers lead the way, while the Oakland Athletics aren’t exactly throwing back fastball responses. One of the most engaging Tweets came from the San Francisco Giants who threw some love to their NBA counterparts the Golden State Warriors in a show of Bay Area solidarity.
