Sling TV Focuses On Football With Launch Of Campus Insiders Network

Sling TV as part of its competition with cable television has continued to add football content, launching the Campus Insiders network Wednesday.

“As schools across the country welcome back students this week, we can’t help but get excited for what’s just around the corner – college football,” wrote Ankit Bishnoi, Sling TV’s head of content acquisition and strategy. “And because we know you love college football as much as we do, we launched Campus Insiders Network just in time for you to catch hundreds of live college sporting events from Conference USA, Mountain West Conference, Patriot League and West Coast Conference.”

Campus Insiders has partnerships with those conferences and will stream its first college football game for Sling TV on Sept. 10 when Fordham hosts Elizabeth City State University. Other games later this month to be shown include Cornell at Bucknell, Penn at Fordham and VMI at Bucknell.

An Internet television service, Sling TV had announced its deal with Campus Insiders last October and noted that it would allow underserved college sports programming to appear on the big screen. Campus Insiders streams live college football games, including the Arizona Bowl.

Sling TV last month began offering the NFL Network and NFL RedZone, making the content available without the need for a cable television subscription. Fans can also watch college football on ESPNU and the SEC Network — Sling TV live-tweeted Thursday’s overtime game between Tennessee and Appalachian State — if they pay extra.

Like those channels, Campus Insiders will be available to Sling TV customers who pay an additional $5 per month for the “Sports Extra” pack.

“With our commitment to covering the world of college sports and delivering the live games of our conference partners to a wider audience, Campus Insiders’ growth is a testament to the insatiable appetite of the more than 100 million Americans who call themselves college sports fans,” Brooks Boyer, the CEO of Campus Insiders owner/operator Silver Chalice said in a statement in October.

Sling TV is hoping some of those football fans will become cord cutters as well.
