Sky Q Offers Split Screen Viewing for Live Feed Sports

European entertainment company Sky announced an upgrade that allows fans to enjoy two live streaming sporting events at once, in a split screen format.

For now, the new features are limited to Sky Q, Sky’s next generation TV platform. Sky Q users access the new content by pressing a red button on their remotes to open the Sky Sports app.

Sky Q users have access to soccer, tennis and Formula 1 live streams through the Sky sports application. After customizing their Match Choice or Race Choice feeds, customers choose to stream two different live events side by side, or watch one live event with corresponding highlights running adjacent.

“We know our customers absolutely love watching live sports and the new Sky Q features will give them the flexibility to choose how they watch,” Luke Bradley-Jones, Brand Director of TV and Content Products at Sky, said in a statement. “Whether it’s a Premier League match or Formula 1 race, customers can simply choose split screen viewing and watch the most talked about goal again and again, or two live races side by side.”

So far, fans are limited to watching two similar sporting events in split screen format and cannot mix Match Choice and Race Choice live feeds. Highlights available in the split screen feed are chosen editorially and audio will switch back and forth at the viewer’s discretion, according to Sky.

The current World Cup Qualifiers on Match Choice will give users a chance to test drive the new split screen functionality.

Older features like Scores and Tables and Sky Sports News highlight videos are now formatted for side by side viewing as well. Split screen features are available on Sky Q 1TB and 2TB boxes.

Sky Q is a leader in offering Ultra HD programming to it 22 million customers across Europe and plans to further personalization, and incorporate voice search in future upgrades, the release said.
