Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, known for being the social media king in the NBA, was fined $10,000 by the league for using using language on social media that it deemed on Saturday to be “inappropriate.”
The fine handed down by NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Kiki VanDeWeghe came following an Instagram Live stream from Embiid on July 4 that included him cussing regarding LaVar Ball, the outspoken father of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball.

Embiid has been engaged in a war of words with the elder Ball since tweeting this on draft night.
Please dunk on him so hard that his daddy runs on the court to save him.. https://t.co/cMvt5RYiSQ

LaVar Ball responded in a radio interview, noting how given the losing and injury history that the 76ers players had experienced that they should get off Twitter and get in the gym. The 76ers had traded up in the draft to select Markelle Fultz with the top overall pick, and Lonzo Ball was drafted second overall by the Lakers.
Embiid seemed to acknowledge the fine on Twitter.
That day has finally come ha #TheProcess
