SEATTLE, WASH. — The Seattle Sports Tech Meetup, which hosts monthly events for the growing community of entrepreneurs and sports fans, have announced the first annual Seattle Sports Tech Hackathon, hosted by Seattle Sounders FC and Galvanize with live data provided by Sportradar.
Teams and individuals will have the opportunity to build tools that combine the worlds of sports and technology. Geeks, jocks, techies, entrepreneurs, and more will come together Sept. 10-11 at The NINETY and Galvanize in Seattle to pitch ideas and develop technology. A panel of judges will hear presentations from each team at the end of the event and award prizes for the best projects, including an API package valued at $20,000 for the winner from Sportradar.
“This is a great opportunity for sports tech developers and entrepreneurs from the Pacific Northwest to showcase their talents and compete for awesome prizes to launch their business” said Co-organizer Joel Carben. “The final pitches will be in front of top judges from the Seattle Sport Tech and VC arena, opening doors for the next big thing in sports tech.”
Sportradar will be providing open access to their API for participating teams, and sponsors will be providing prizes for competing teams. Individuals will pay $50 to enter the hackathon, which includes food, beverages, prizes and more. Anyone can attend the final pitches of the competition on Sept. 11.
The event will also be incorporating viewing parties for both the Sounders FC match against division rival San Jose Earthquakes and the Seahawks home opener against the Miami Dolphins in addition to a keynote panel with the region’s sports technology leaders.
