Seattle Seahawks’ Michael Bennett To Help African Girls Learn To Code

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett and his wife, Pele, announced on Tuesday a partnership with iamtheCODE, an African-led global movement to advance young girls in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Thanks to the partnership, 100 marginalized girls in Africa will be able to experience S.T.E.A.M. programs.

“I am truly excited to help these girls in Africa to learn how to code and gain technical skills through iamtheCODE,” Bennett said in a statement. “My wife Pele and I are very proud to support the building of solid tech training pipelines in communities in Africa.”

Bennett in March pledged to donate all of his 2017 endorsement money to help rebuild minority communities through S.T.E.A.M. programs and initiatives that help women of color.

“Michael and I value deeply that the education of girls in marginalised and deprived communities is being taken care of and highlighted by the iamtheCODE initiative,” Pele Bennett said in a statement.
