To track data while running, users often have to bring their phones and/or strap on a wearable device. With Runtopia Reach smart running shoes, you can leave that all behind and still collect data.
With a smart tracking chip embedded in the insole of one of the shoes, data can be tracked and then transferred to the Runtopia companion GPS-based app for analysis and sharing. The shoe functions independently, so the data including duration, calories, pace, cadence and foot strike can be manually synced after the outdoor or indoor run.
Thanks to smart sensors, Runtopia’s shoes can analyze running form and give real-time audio feedback if you’ve got a smartphone with you during the run so running technique can be improved.
“The Runtopia team had a vision to bring smart shoes to the world so that runners of all levels would have the tools they needed to improve their runs, at a fraction of the cost of a live-personal trainer,” James Si, VP & co-founder, said in a statement. “At Runtopia, we are committed to elevating the running experience — not only by creating products and services — but by creating an engaged network of enthusiasts and promoting a sports-centric lifestyle. With Runtopia Reach we are making each step smarter and safer.”
Runtopia, which claims more than a million users as part of its community, managed to have the Runtopia Reach project successfully backed through crowdfunding on Indiegogo. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, the company also displayed its smart walking shoes — suitable for everyday wear — and smart heartrate sports bra that also can enable audio feedback “to optimize and customize weight loss plans for burning calories.”
“After a strong launch on Indiegogo, we are excited to provide consumers with our product in early 2018, elevating the running experience for all,” Si said of Runtopia Reach.
