With Rossignol and PIQ, you’ll ski like never before

Paris, December 14th 2015 – During the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships « Criterium de la Première Neige » in Val d’Isère (France),Rossignol Group, worldwide leader in the ski industry with the Rossignol brand, and PIQ, the leader in multi sports connected objects, have today announced the most advanced wearable sensor and platform for skiing.

PIQ rossignol ski rouge

Rossignol and PIQ share the same desire to bring a new dimension to the on-snow experience and create a skiing community. The PIQ sensor slips into the strap compatible with any ski boot and allows skiers to have access in real time to their performances. The Rossignol and PIQ app has been developed for turns and Freestyle and gives details about performance metrics: edge to edge speed, G force, carving angle/ air time, G force at landing, rotation, etc. At the end of the day, it highlights the best performances and allows skiers to challenge themselves and others.

Sylvain Noailly, Marketing and Business development VP of Rossignol Group: « We are very enthusiastic to work with PIQ and reveal our connected offer for skiing. We share common values such as authenticity, commitment, and a wish that all skiers will be able to fully live their passion. Our connected solution is the most advanced one and will allow any skier to feel like a hero and share it. »After having introduced its multisport sensor to the worlds of golf and tennis, PIQ addresses the skiing market and confirms its ambition to enhance the on-snow experience and make it more exciting. Users that have already acquired a PIQ sensor for golf or tennis just need to equip themselves with the ski accessory (to activate the sensor’s “ski” mode) to enjoy this new experience.

Media Kit

PIQ integrates the latest sensor technology NFC, BLE and cutting edge micro processing technology. PIQ incorporates 13 axis and accurately measures performance metrics such as velocity, height, air time, G force, amplitude, trajectory, etc.
It has been designed to be positioned in the ideal place for data collection whatever the sport is. PIQ is a small, ultra-lightweight, waterproof and flexible multi-sport motion sensor connected to your smart device via BLE.

“We are proud to work with Rossignol which has Innovation and the quest for performance in their DNA. With their unique expertise in skiing and our significant platform knowledge, we will enhance the skiing practice. As of today, we cannot imagine running without connected objects or app, it will be the same in a few years time for skiing” according to Cédric Mangaud, co-founder and President of PIQ.

The most advanced wearable platform for ski
Rossignol and PIQ desire to enhance skiing lifestyle and make it more attractive. PIQ has created the lightest wearable sensor that easily slips into the Rossignol and PIQ strap. The strap is easy to use, convenient and compatible with any ski boot.
Skiers can have real time access to their turns or freestyle sessions on their Smartphones. If they don’t have their smartphones on them, the PIQ sensor stores data until the next connection with their devices.

piq-rossignol-3Analyzes every turn and every jump
With the Rossignol and PIQ app (available on iOS and Google Play), every skier will be able to analyze and understand their turns and freestyle performances. PIQ allows skiers to track every detail of their runs and tell them what their best performances in each session are: best PIQ Score, best turn or best jump.

No matter what their skill level may be, skiers have moments of brilliance and PIQ summarizes the best of them to make their next runs more exciting. The analysis made after each run gives the opportunity for skiers to quantify their game, to compare their performances with others skiers and even professional ones.

These challenges give a fun spirit while enabling skiers to take the relevant and necessary steps to improve on their technique for coming runs.

A new social dimension
With the Rossignol and PIQ app, a skier can challenge his nearby friends or even his remote ones. After any run or ski jump, a user will get his PIQ Score and will be able to share it. The PIQ Score is a skiing reference such as an opener during the run before the competition. The PIQ measuring unit will enable a real challenging world within the community.
