Online Community Brings Structure, Innovation to eSports
MILWAUKEE, WIS. – eSports innovation group eSports Access has announced the launch of RankR eSports, a new online community that will serve as a central hub for eSports tournaments, teams, rankings and news from around the world.
RankR eSports is the first release from eSports Access. The platform agnostic website aims to bring organization to the rapidly growing world of eSports.
“As fast as eSports is growing, managing eSports as both a player and spectator can be difficult,” says Jacob Smith, CEO of eSports Access. “RankR eSports is the one place where players can get ranked on a global ladder, find events to watch or play in and find teams to play in those events with.”
RankR eSports’ features include:
- A calendar that aggregates global eSports tournaments – for both participation and viewing – in one place.
- A “Team Builder” function that helps players find and join teams based on a proprietary ranking system.
- A “Global Ranking” ladder that is a one-of-a-kind system allowing players to see where they rank for their favorite games.
According to eSports Access COO and Co-Founder Cameron Robinson, RankR eSports aims to provide a central structure for the quickly-growing global eSports community, while focusing on the most important part of eSports, the players.
“Our mission is to make RankR eSports a foundation on which eSports can grow, thrive and become more accessible to players and fans around the world,” says Robinson. “We’re taking some cues from the traditional world of sports, but also creating a community that is unique to the eSports landscape.”
Smith and Robinson met as students in a web-design course at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. eSports Access, which started as a class project, was born out of Smith’s frustrations about the tedious process of finding eSports events to compete in. Today, the pair manages a team of five engineers, statisticians and other eSports experts.
“We are eSports players first,” says Smith. “Everything we’re doing is influenced by that lens, and we hope to make a meaningful impact on the community because of that.”
eSports Access and RankR eSports are based in Milwaukee, WI. For more information please contact Jacob Smith at jake@esportsaccess.com.
