PlaySight Partners With Intercollegiate Tennis Association To Spread Their Smart Courts

PlaySight, the tennis company that has earned a name for itself with their SmartCourt technology, has just announced a major partnership with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Playsight will be hoping that their new relationship with the ITA will allow their product to become an even greater presence in the world of college tennis. Colleges like Northwestern, Virginia Tech and Princeton already have SmartCourt systems for their tennis programs, but this deal will likely add a few more names to that list.

Playsight SmartCourts are essentially six high-definition cameras set up on any tennis court. Three cameras are set up at each baseline, and they record the speed of each serve and swing, the accuracy, the height of a ball over the net and form.hqdefault

Additionally, all of these data and analytics points are instantly accessible online or over the Playsight Tennis app. People can access a SmartCourt live stream from anywhere, and there is no cap on the amount of viewers for one of these live stream sessions.

For each recorded session, coaches or players can access 3D recreations of each set, and their form on serves and swings.

“At the end of the day, the ITA believes that PlaySight’s technology will enable coaches and players to be more effective, and, ultimately successful. And we are particularly excited with the potential for LiveCourts to be streaming tennis matches from colleges across the nation,” said ITA CEO Timothy Russell.

Russell’s mention of the live streaming option is one of the benefits that the ITA could gather from this partnership. If every collegiate tennis court is hooked up to the SmartCourt system, viewers could easily access any match.
