Visa, a longtime NFL sponsor that has worked with payment innovation, had Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown at the site of the Super Bowl showcasing the Visa payment ring.
While in Houston, Brown as part of his promotional activities surprised fans by picking up their tabs and buying them Super Bowl items at the NFL Shop with the tap of the NFC-enabled wearable device that works at NFC-capable payment terminals.
“It’s so easy and convenient to carry,” Brown told Sports Illustrated on Facebook Live.
And yes, thanks to his promotion of Visa, Brown used Facebook Live and spoke plenty about Facebook and his controversial stream of the Steelers’ playoff postgame locker room.
Brown remained apologetic about the stream that drew a rebuke from coach Mike Tomlin and a reported fine from the Steelers.
Citing sources, NFL.com reported after the incident that Brown has a six-figure marketing deal with Facebook.
Asked about the report of the marketing deal to broadcast live, Brown told For The Win, “It’s top secret.”
Asked what Facebook asked him to do for whatever they’re paying him, Brown told Dan Patrick, “They usually like me to show the…I usually get the fans in tune, a look in regards of my lifestyle, if it’s training, postgame, a victory, the camaraderie of the guys. But I never intended to embarrass our team, our head coach and our organization.”
Brown also appeared on multiple Facebook videos on behalf of Visa, talking in a live Q&A about the technology in his personal life and football, making an appearance with a social influencer, and of course once again, showing how the payment ring works.
