With Tiger Woods recently winning his 79th PGA Tour title and the PGA championship beginning today, golf fans are flocking to the PGA Tour app.

Presented by Nike Golf and powered by the Mi Platform from July Systems, the app has various ways for fans to connect to the PGA Tour, ranging from player bios and live video to a leaderboard for the current tournament.

Available for Apple products in the App Store, the app opens to the current leaderboard of the tournament where users can also view the tee times of each player as well as the results from the previous tournament.  This convenience prevents fans from having to go to a computer or the television to obtain this information.

The app’s ‘Tour Report’ gives fans the opportunity to read the most recent articles written about the PGA tour. Articles include the current weather report for the first day of the PGA Championship as well as what players in the tournament can do to increase their chances to win.

The ‘Media’ section of the app reduces the need for fans to be at a television or computer to watch the tour. App users can stream live coverage of the PGA Tour from anywhere in the world as well as view pictures and featured videos from the tour. A recent video on the app takes viewers on a tour of Rory McIlroy’s trophy displays. Pictures in the ‘Media’ section include images of holes on golf courses used throughout the PGA Tour.

TWFans have the ability to learn more about their favorite PGA Tour participants by going to the ‘Players’ section of the app. Fans can see player bios and stats as well as a scorecard of the player during the tour and a play-by-play during each event.

The PGA TOUR app has taken a step above most other sporting event apps by adding a ‘Social’ section, which allows app users to see the most recent tweets relating to the tour. Tweets in this section come from the official PGA Tour twitter as well as golf analysts and tour players.

For those interested in the technical aspects of each tournament, app users have the ability to see details of each tournament on the PGA Tour. By going to the ‘Tournaments’ section, golf fans can see the entire 2013 PGA Tour schedule. App users can also see each tournament’s course, the defending champion, and then points and money that the winner of the tournament obtains.

For those interested in other tours in the golf world, app users can switch the app to apply to other tours outside of the PGA tour. The app can be switched to the Champions Tour, the Web.com Tour, the LatinoAmerica Tour, and the PGA Tour Canada.

The PGA Tour app gives golf fans and those interested in the sport a convenient way to connect to any of the tournaments featured in the tour. App users can also interact with favorite players and golf courses with the incorporation of Twitter and media outlets such as photos and videos. The PGA Tour has combined all aspects of the golf world into one easy-to-use app, putting it a step above the way television and the Internet provide PGA Tour coverage.
