(LOS ANGELES, CA) – November 7, 2016 – Oak View Group (OVG) today announced a lead investment in sports technology media company, SportTechie. The investment comes at a time when sports and technology are colliding to create an entirely new industry in the global sports ecosystem and SportTechie has positioned itself as the leading content creator in this space.

Starting as a bootstrapped blog four years ago and growing into the industry’s leading destination for sports technology news and content, SportTechie will work closely with OVG to scale its operations and build out its content across digital platforms and leading industry events.

The investment from OVG, a sports and live entertainment firm founded by Tim Leiweke and Irving Azoff, comes after SportTechie announced a partnership this summer with Sports Illustrated to launch a multi-platform sports technology vertical on SI.com.

“SportTechie has become our industry’s leading voice in a category that’s growing at a rapid pace,” said Leiweke. “Taylor and his team have built the foundation for a powerful global media company and we’re excited to partner with them in building SportTechie’s next chapter.”

With the investment SportTechie will continue to hire new team members that will enhance its ability to deliver important sports technology content across multiple platforms. In turn, this will allow SportTechie to provide clients with strengthened existing offerings and new methods of positioning their brand within SportTechie’s audience of industry influencers.

“On a global scale, sports and technology are intersecting to create a thriving new industry. It is at the center of this intersection where SportTechie is working to create and deliver world-class content and insights to unite industry influencers and fans alike. We are assembling a truly fantastic team of content creators and business minds to develop a great media company and couldn’t be more excited that a brilliant sports and entertainment entity like Oak View Group shares our vision and enthusiasm for the space. They are truly the ideal partner to help take us to the next level,” said Taylor Bloom, SportTechie CEO and Co-Founder.

Together, with SportTechie’s sports technology expertise and global audience of sports influencers, and OVG’s Arena Alliance, Narrative Partners and unmatched sports and entertainment influence, the two will work to build SportTechie into a global media company focused on sports technology news, leaders, stories, innovations and experiences.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Vintage Capital Investments also participated in the round.
