Hockey fans, prepare for a fresh perspective to following action on the ice.
Thanks to the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, NHL.com will revolutionize the way hockey statistics are tracked. The league’ official website has divulged a plan for dispersing helpful new features throughout the course of the next few years. An emphasis will be placed on real-time statistics in an interactive fashion that will better enlighten the casual fan, and give deeper insight for the die-hard enthusiasts.
This is all being made possible by SAP SE and their alliance with the NHL.
The highly successful global software corporation will be tasked with implementing the NHL.com website with capabilities that range from team power indexes, and a means for post-season predictions, to major advancements in prior features. Already in play on the website are upgraded statistics monitoring and superior visual representations of team and individual statistics.
The NHL’s Chief Operating Officer, John Collins, explains that with a boost from SAP the NHL is, “now able to capture data points like never before and present existing and new statistics in a visually appealing way”.
He adds: “There are also unlimited storytelling opportunities as we provide our fans with a personalized and interactive experience”.
What the NHL is creating for a sport defined by its relentless action is more than just a source for instant statistical updates, but a system that gives fans added dimensions. In the near future, followers will have improved methods for gauging player and team performance during and after hockey matches. There will be access to stats of players and teams from years past, so comparisons can be made between current athletes and those of yesterday.
Quentin Clark, SAP’s Chief Technology Officer, expressed his optimism when he made the claim that “our partnership with the NHL will allow fans to gain deeper insights from the game and tell enticing stories about hockey and its players.”
The NHL and SAP have altered the game by paving new avenues for discussion on hockey, inventively using statistics to paint a picture, and totally altering the spectator experience; quite the hat trick indeed.
