NESN Adopts AnyClip’s Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Video Content Platform

Video monetization platform AnyClip has announced the launch of its LuminousX AI-enabled video analysis software. AnyClip has partnered with NESN, the New England Sports Network, to be among the first media outlets to integrate LuminousX.

When a user watches a video on a LuminousX-enabled web page, artificial intelligence analyzes and identifies the main people, topics, and brands featured in the video. While that video is playing, an automatic feed of relevant clips that match the content will appear to further engage the user. LuminousX draws from AnyClip’s built-in library of millions of videos aggregated from more than 80 of the world’s top content producers. Essentially, LuminousX has the ability to transform any web page containing a single video into an immersive YouTube-style experience intended to boost revenue for media publishers and advertisers.

“While users are consuming more content, it is mostly happening within centralized content hubs such as Facebook, Google, and Apple News,” said Gil Becker, President & CEO of AnyClip, in a press release. “Users turn to these platforms to get a more comprehensive view of the topics they care about. We’re changing that by bringing together a large and diverse premium video content library with a unique AI and data-driven layer that create an endless contextual video feed. We truly believe that LuminousX is reinventing context and redefining user engagement.”

NESN, which is owned by the Red Sox and Bruins, frequently embeds videos in articles on its website. The network produces its own videos, meaning all the video content aggregated by LuminousX on the network’s web page (as well as mobile, social media, and streaming platforms) will be extracted from AnyClip’s library of NESN-produced videos. For example, if a user is watching a video on NESN.com about the Red Sox signing All-Star outfielder J.D. Martinez, other videos relating to past news about Martinez or previous Red Sox free agent signings will pop-up for extending viewing.

“LuminousX allows discovery of related curated video content in ways that surprise our users and encourage longer sessions and higher engagement metrics,” said Scott Brewitt, Director of Digital Ad Sales and Operations at NESN, in the press release. “LuminousX has opened up new monetization opportunities for our video content and strengthens connections with our loyal audience base. We are pleased with our AnyClip partnership and their vision for video engagement.”

AnyClip’s patent-pending AI technology was created by Israeli software engineers over the past three years. LuminousX can also appeal to advertisers, because video clips can be monetized with relevant in-stream ads. If a video shows LeBron James in a Lakers jersey and Nike sneakers, retail buttons and links could appear to direct a user to the Lakers team store or Nike online sneaker shop.

AnyClip has created the opportunity for a continuous video consumption experience, similar to YouTube, that can be implemented across sports media platforms like NESN. When analyzing a video in real-time, LuminousX produces organized metadata describing the video, and categorizes the content according to official Interactive Advertising Bureau categories.

While media outlets may increasingly depend on artificial intelligence platforms such as LuminousX to drive ad-revenue and video engagement, AI is also being used to create the video itself. Brands such as Bleacher Report are relying on WSC Sports’ artificial intelligence platform to automatically generate video highlight reels.
