Donte and Dominic Morris are brothers who love to play basketball. The Sacramento State graduates enjoy a good pickup game, but often times, finding a game is hard to do.
“I know people are playing basketball, I just don’t know when and where,” Donte said. “There has to be a better solution. So we created one.”
They created Hoopmaps – an app that allows users to create a profile, check in with his or her location, schedule a game, find a game or create a game and invite friends to join and play.

Donte recently gave a pitch on the app for the Sacramento Kings’ startup contest, Capitalize, which is in its second year and allows 16 local startups to compete for a cash prize. Hoopmaps was selected as a semifinalist for the contest, but did not make it to the final round.
Still, the app is available on for download in the App Store. And in addition to the app, Hoopmaps is hosting a three-on-three tournament on Aug. 20 in downtown Oklahoma City. Players must have a Hoopmaps account to participate and teams each have to pay a $30 fee.
