NBC Regional Networks Now Offering Streaming Of Live, Local NHL Games

NBC Sports Regional Networks and the National Hockey League have announced the offering of live, local streaming of games in addition to NHL pregame and postgame coverage.

The streaming of local games replaces the streaming of just out-of-market games while the local games are blacked out, and it is available at no additional cost to subscribers of NBC Sports Group’s CSN regional sports networks through certain providers.

To access the live streaming, users visiting the website of their local CSN regional network or can download the NBC Sports app on mobile devices as well as Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Win10 and Xbox.

The teams participating in the local streaming offer are the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks and Washington Capitals.

Each team’s separate information and streaming time will be announced separately by the different organizations market – CSN Chicago, CSN Philadelphia, CSN California and CSN Mid-Atlantic.

CSN’s addition of NHL streaming comes after the 2014 introduction of live, local NBA streaming, which has seen a significant increase in consumption over that past two seasons.

“Our introduction of live, local NHL streaming marks another important step toward making all of our live content available to CSN subscribers, wherever they are and on any device,” President of NBC Sports Regional Networks and NBS Sports Group Platform and Content Strategy David Preschlack said in a statement. “Digital consumption of our live, local NBA games continue to grow year over year, and we are confident that NHL fans in our markets will find great value in this offering as well.”

This new NHL offer is similar to a multi-year deal FOX Sports Regional Networks completed in July, which allows viewers to watch live and local hockey games on the RSNs and FOX Sports GO and the Fox regional sports networks.

“As the most tech-savvy of all sports fans, the NHL is committed to delivering content to hockey fans on as many platforms as possible,” David Proper, NHL Executive President of Media and International Strategy, said in a statement. “We are pleased that hockey fans that subscribe to NBC Sports Regional Networks will now have more ways to enjoy live NHL games.”
