If your New Year’s resolution is to get in better shape, there’s no better time to start than the present. NBCUniversal has just announced the launch of their new fitness brand called Radius. Beginners and fitness experts alike can find new workout routines, set personal goals, and track their progress through this innovative platform.

“Radius marks an exciting evolution in the industry as we make premium fitness accessible to anyone, anywhere, anytime by leveraging our media platforms, technology, and partnerships,” Nick Lehman, NBCUniversal’s President of Digital, told Business Wire.

“With fitness at the epicenter of today’s pop culture, now is the perfect time to introduce a new media brand that can capture and drive the explosion of innovation in the fitness space.”

A multi-channel system, including television, desktop, and mobile programming, provides users with interactive and empowering experiences. In addition to the website and Radius Fitness mobile app, NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) is complimenting these tools with a three hour weekday programming block from 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. It’s very unique to have a media company enter the fitness technology market.

“We think there’s just been an explosion of innovation in the fitness area overall and there hasn’t been a media brand that can serve as a national platform to capture that innovation,” Lehman told the Associated Press.

Several sports and fitness industry leaders have come alongside NBC to partner with Radius. Under Armour sees great value for users and is hoping to capitalize on the program’s success.

“I’m proud of the fact that a piece of apparel and a pair of shoes can help you, but it’s good to have a trainer yelling at you every now and then,” said Under Armour’s Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Plank, in an interview yesterday with CNBC, where he announced his company’s new fitness-based partnership with NBC.

As the exclusive athletic apparel and footwear provider, their gear will be featured in each programming channel along with an e-commerce feature to allow for purchases.

NBC and Under Armour are changing the fitness technology market with this premium multi-channel program. As the popularity of Radius grows, additional partnerships are expected to be announced. Radius is initially being offered at a subscription rate of $9.99 per month, with options for discounted six months or annual plans as well.
