The National Women’s Hockey League in its second season of existence is taking its games to television screens after live news network Cheddar announced Monday it would air NWHL weekend games on its new Sling TV channel for the rest of the season.
Cheddar became a live linear television network on Sling TV earlier this month, enabling customers to stream content including women’s hockey on television. The first broadcast will come Sunday as the Buffalo Beauts host the Boston Pride, and also that day, the game between the New York Riveters and Connecticut Whale will air on delay.
“We are thrilled to broadcast the NWHL games,” Cheddar CEO Jon Steinberg said in a statement. “There is a long history of business news channels broadcasting sports on the weekend, and we are excited to take this to a new level with one of the most exciting and fast paced professional sports. Women’s hockey is the future, Cheddar is the future, and Sling is the future. It all makes perfect sense.”

Last year, NWHL games were streamed on ESPN3. This year, Cheddar on Sling TV is the place to go in addition to the Cross-Ice Pass YouTube channel via nwhl.zone/video.
“This is a big step in the evolution of the National Women’s Hockey League and great news for our fans,” NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan said in a statement. “This deal with our partners at Cheddar places our games on a popular network with broad reach and scale and meets the goals of our digital growth strategy for the League.”
