Rugby league players across Australia and New Zealand will be doing a lot of learning in the near future.
Velpic Ltd. announced a partnership with the National Rugby League that will see 4,000 players in the league use the web-based learning management system to get educated in topics dealing with wellness, relationships and social responsibility.
Players will be able to access the lessons on their mobile devices, and program administrators can track in real-time how many players have completed the various modules and overall player engagement in the system, as well as provide feedback.
“The NRL and State Leagues continue to look at the best opportunities to educate players and officials about Wellbeing. Everyone has access to a mobile phone, so what better way to deliver Wellbeing and Education messages to the hip pocket than Velpic, as it works on all mobile devices,” NRL representative Paul Heptonstall said in the announcement.

Velpic was introduced to rugby league in August when the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs implemented the platform, which also offers e-coaching, to help players perform better through a number of digital coaching techniques. Coaches could manage player engagement and participation, and players could receive match statistics and videos and notes from the coach. That Velpic system is slightly different from what the National Rugby League is installing, but is owned by the same company, Velpic Limited.
It appears, in fact, that Velpic’s use by the Bulldogs is what spurred this recent partnership with the NRL as a whole.
“We are extremely pleased that our work with the Canterbury Bulldogs has brought us to the attention of the NRL and that we have been trusted as their online partner for such a strategic project,” Russell Francis, Velpic’s CEO, said in the announcement. “We look forward to helping the NRL rollout their blended learning strategy in 2018.”
