Monumental Sports Network Launches Over-The-Top Subscription Service For Live Games

The Monumental Sports Network announced an over-the-top subscription service that will enable fans to watch from anywhere live games of the WNBA’s Washington Mystics and the Arena Football League’s Washington Valor among others.

The subscription is available for phones using apps for iOS and Android and on bigger screens using Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Google Chromecast and MonumentalSportsNetwork.com. Live games will be available for the minor league affiliate Hershey Bears (AHL) and South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) and high schools. There will also be insider access features with the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals and original programming, including a brand-new midday show.

“This is a personal sports network, delivering direct-to-fan accessibility that reflects how fans feel about their favorite D.C. teams –  every day, all year long, no matter where they live and however they want to consume and connect,” Monumental Sports Network vice president & general manager Zach Leonsis said in a statement.

Monumental Sports Network will provide more than 80 hours of original programs per year, including 15 new original shows including an interviewing program featuring former Duke basketball player and President Obama aide Reggie Love and a reality series featuring DC-area basketball players competing for a payout.

“This is a millennial-focused OTT network and we want to experiment with, well, what does millennial-styled content look like?” Leonsis told the Washington Post. “It’s different, it’s offbeat, it’s funny at times, it’s gritty, it’s real, it’s socially relevant, and that’s what we’re going to try to aim for.”

Annual subscriptions are available for $8.99 per month, and month-to-month subscriptions cost $12.99. Season ticket plans for 2017-18 come with annual access to subscription content. Non-subscribers will have access to existing free content.

The announcement of the OTT service came two days after Monumental announced an advanced media partnership that extends CSN Mid-Atlantic’s exclusive media rights for the Wizards and Capitals along with an investment by NBC Sports Group in Monumental Sports Network.
