As Spring Training gets underway before the start of the 2016 Major League Baseball season MLB.com’s At Bat App is set to continue to bring baseball fans the content and access they have come to expect, along with some important new updates.
The top grossing sports app in the United States seven years running is providing its users with some new features this year from Spring Training until the last out of the World Series.

The 2016 updates to the At Bat app will feature Portrait and Landscape orientations on iPads only. There will be a brand new split view allowing users to keep the app open, as well as picture-in-picture streaming for live video and highlights; both are only available for now on select iPads. The app has also been redesigned in a few key areas: News Reader, Gameday, Videos, Storable stats and more for both iPhone and iPad. Lastly there is a new User Interface experience for League and Team News readers for Android phones and tablets.
There are also some new features that will be around just for Spring Training, 2016. Users will have the opportunity to listen to available radio broadcast, view batter-by-batter action, storable stats, customize At Bat home screen, as well as laundry list of others.
At Bat is available for download in a few options: a free version, the yearly Premium version for $19.99, or the monthly Premium for $2.99.
For MLB fans who do not want to pay for the Premium version the free app offers a lot of great features that will let users get closer to their favorite teams as well as the league as a whole. The free version offers live scores, news, statistics, and league standings.
Baseball diehards who upgrade to the Premium version will of course be able to access many more features than the free version, for a relatively low price. They will be able to listen to live radio broadcasts for every team, access live look-ins, classic games as well as a few more features. There is also the option for Spanish-langue audio feeds on a users’ desktop or laptop computer.
This app gives unprecedented access to fans who subscribe or already subscribe to MLB TVs Premium package(s). Users who subscribe to a yearly, monthly, or single team package get the Premium At Bat app for free allowing them to watch all the games they normally would on their televisions at home, on the app with supported devices.
App subscribers will be able to have access on devices such as iPod touch, Amazon Kindle Fire as well as the Apple Watch; which took off in popularity for users last season as soon as access was available. However the new 2016 updates are still only available as stated for the time being, on supported device.
The long grind of the nearly six month, 162 game MLB season, where games average just under three hours makes this app perfect for high usage. At Bat boasted a record 8.4 billion minutes consumed in 2015, ranking 1st in that category for all sports apps and if the updates prove to be successful those numbers will climb even higher in 2016.
