Add a man riding a hoverboard as the newest way to deliver a game ball at a sporting event.
Instead of just walking over to hand the ball to the referees, a gentleman surfed through the air on a propeller-based Omni Hoverboard before the Portuguese Cup Final on Sunday between Benfica and Vitoria SC.
In the video, the hoverboard-riding man at Estádio Nacional can be seen surfing through the air with relative ease over security officials and photographers before landing on the opposite side of the pitch.
“Many thanks to the Portuguese Football Federation and Humberto Duarte at Fun Addict for inviting Omni Hoverboards to deliver the matchball for the Portugal Football Cup Final event on Sunday 28th May,” wrote Omni Hoverboards
According to the company’s website, its mark-1 prototype — which appeared this past weekend — recently achieved a new Guinness World Records title for the longest distance traveled by hoverboard at 905’ 2”.
In April, the World Rugby Sevens Series featured a DHL remote-controlled van delivering a match ball while on Spring Training opening day for the Tampa Bay Rays, the USSOCOM Parachute Team used a GoPro to film bringing the American flag and ceremonial first pitch ball to the diamond during a pregame presentation.
