Being visible at night when out for a ride is a major concern for bicyclists. But, LUMO, a new Kickstarter product, looks to increase safety for a bicyclist by a wide margin and decrease the chances of an accident.

According to LUMO, 92 percent of fatal cycling accidents occur in low light conditions, but only 10 percent of riders wear hi-visibility clothing.

Fortunately, British couple Doug Bairner and Lucy Brown have an answer for that in the form of LUMO, cycling apparel designed to increase the safety of bike riders at night. Their trademark product comes in the form of several classic British outerwear, such as a Harrington jacket, Camden Polo, or a Bermondsey backpack, for example. What is cool about LUMO apparel is that they can seamlessly switch from fashionable apparel to life-saving cycling equipment in an instant.

Ultra-High Brightness LED lights are built into the LUMO apparel; and are completely concealed until the user turns them on. The brightness of the LED light has a remarkable range that can make the cyclist visible from up to 400 meters to other road traffic. What is neat about the lights is that they are powered for up to six hours by a removable USB-rechargeable battery that is conveniently placed inside a small pocket.

Another nifty feature is that LUMO wearers do not have to worry about the rain. The lights are fully waterproof and machine washable, like any other athletic apparel piece.

LUMO has launched on Kickstarter, where anyone who has ever endured riding through a city after dark can back the product; and help the founders reach their financial goal in order to start the very first LUMO London Collective range.
