Mio Global will license its proprietary Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) technology to Lenovo, thanks to a recent partnership. PAI uses heart rate to provide an all-encompassing score that helps people manage their health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The metric will be featured in Lenovo’s new HW01 Plus fitness bands and will eventually extend to other devices.
The attractiveness of PAI comes from its simplicity. Based on your heart rate and personal data, you will receive a score. The goal is for that score to be in the 100+ range. A HUNT Fitness Study showed that those who keep a PAI of 100+ live an average of five years longer than those who are inactive.
“We are excited to integrate PAI into the experiences and platforms of many other brands to positively impact global health by making wearables more meaningful,” Mio Global CEO Peter Taylor said in a statement. “Lenovo is a major brand in the consumer technology space, so we’re thrilled that PAI was the chosen metric to help grow their business because of its wide appeal across a wide variety of consumers of lifestyles and fitness levels.”
At its core, the collaboration seems mutually beneficial for both sides.
Lenovo gets to feature the PAI algorithm that has potential to revolutionize how we monitor exercise and health. Meanwhile, Mio gets a much-needed boost amidst a period where the wearable market has seen its ups and downs.
