Komodo Technologies, Inc., a Winnipeg based company, make low cost global GPS tracking devices, and now they are beginning to venture into the world of wearables, with their new compression sleeve based heart monitoring system. Their AIO (all in one) Smart Sleeves technology boasts the claim of being the “World’s First Activity Tracking and Heart Monitoring Compression Sleeves.” Komodo’s goal is to provide a more accurate heart monitoring and activity tracking device, than their wrist-based counterparts can provide.

Komodo’s Kickstarter campaign began April 5th and features two different sleeve products, the AIO Smart Sleeve, and the AIO M.D. Both sleeves are made out of extremely breathable polycarbonate antimicrobial material, and hug a user’s skin tightly yet comfortably. The monitoring is conducted by small tracking device(s) which are located underneath the sleeve, allowing them to rest snuggly against the skin.
The AIO Smart Sleeve is able to monitor and track a user’s heartbeat, sleep, steps, distance, and intensity of activity (MET – Metabolic Equivalent of Task). The small monitor in the sleeve, located on the inner forearm, is connected to their Smartphone app in real time via BLE (Bluetooh Low Energy). Komodo was able to design their small lightweight and long lasting monitoring device, with the help of Toshiba.
The compression sleeve’s battery life will last roughly 7 days, and the breathability of the fabric allows users to wear it 24-hours a day, from the gym to their bed.
The AIO M.D. will provide the user with all the same monitoring capabilities as the standard Smart Sleeve, but with the added benefit of tracking ECG (Continuous Electrocardiogram). This is something that a standard wrist device cannot provide because in order to track ECG there must be two monitors. The M.D. will have the same monitor on the forearm, with another located on the inside of the bicep. Tracking ECG allows the user to gain an understanding of the overall health and condition of their heart, by working to continuously measure its electrical activity, while monitoring for irregularities. This is information that Komodo hopes users will be able to understand because of the simplicity and efficiency of their app.
Komodo Technologies initial Kickstarter will end May 5th, 2016. They are looking to reach a goal of $80,566, and both sleeves can be preordered now: AIO Smart Sleeve $75, the M.D. $99. If the Kickstarter campaign is completed they will begin the pre-production process for all orders placed, while they finish designing their app for IOS and Android. After a period of quality control they will ship the initial orders by September of 2016, before staring on their next wave of improvements.
If all goes according to plan Komodo will then begin working to enhance this technology to provide users with even more vital health information, such as stress level. Other future monitoring developments include: UV sensor, blood oxymeter, air quality, barometric pressure, and body temperature. Komodo Founder, Elvis Goren, acknowledges they are currently working on this technology. “We’re even working on algorithms that will detect early signs of heart inflammation and coronary heart disease, as well as record users’ stress levels…”
AIO Smart Sleeves hope to help users live a more healthy lifestyle, and Komodo is looking for other developers to assist them on their mission, by testing out new ways to improve their product. They have entered into a very competitive market, but with their unique compression sleeves, Komodo Technologies hopes to break through.
