The Kansas City Chiefs announced that they will be implementing a new, mobile-only, paperless ticket plan for fans looking for low-priced seats.
The Bud Light Game Day Pass, as the Chiefs are calling it, guarantees tickets, but not specific seats, for all 10 Chiefs home games for the 2017 season. These seats will be sent to purchasers on the morning of the game via mobile phone, are non-transferable, unprintable and can only be used by the purchaser and/or other designated ticket holders.
“The sports and entertainment ticketing industry continues to evolve as technology and purchasing habits change,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said in a statement. “We are excited to test the Bud Light Game Day Pass this season and are grateful for our partners at Bud Light who embraced this concept from the beginning and have played a large part in making it a reality for the 2017 season.”
The Bud Light Game Day Pass, at $200 per season, will only be available in select sections of Arrowhead Stadium’s upper deck. Normal season tickets — with printed ticket options and the knowledge of where you will be seating before game day — start pricing at $380 per season.

Teams have embraced mobile-ticketing options for a variety of reasons: one being to reduce fraud. Data on everyone who is in the stadium using mobile-only tickets can allow for heightened security and limited fraud.
Another reason teams have started to implement more paperless ticket plans is to appease younger fan bases. As younger demographics start to dominate the ticket-buying market — and as older generations become increasingly familiar with the nuances of smartphone usage — teams have begun to cater to those sensibilities by offering technologically innovative measures that make the fan experience easier for those who know how to utilize it.
