IQ Sport Advisory Group has recently published a survey in mTurk to find out how sports fans use digital and social media content during sports events. From this, they got in touch with more than 100 fans and asked about their habits and sore points. As it turned out, 60% of interviewees use social media tools quite often, both during and after sports events. Quite surprisingly, when they actually attend the event, they do not only take advantage of the social media during intermissions, but throughout the duration of the event. 50% of fans use only FB or Twitter, but interestingly, more than 30% of them use different and less generic social and digital tools, like teams and league apps, media groups, and fantasy sports platforms. The most challenging thing about using technology when attending or following sports events is the clutter in the content, especially when it comes to more generic social media platforms.
There are too many posts to review, which at the same time are of low quality. It becomes too distracting from the game action. The natural consequence of this issue is seen in the second problem fans pointed out – the limited capability to filter out posts in order to get to what is really meaningful to them more easily.
Is there room for complementary solutions that could eliminate such problems? eFAN is a mobile platform created to address these issues. In eFAN you can build your event crews of fans you follow and your followers in the context of a given event you are going to attend. What you gain as a consequence is 3 levels of insight into the event-related content, the event public feed, private feed and the stream of best posts tagged by you and your contacts. Additionally, you get extra sorting and filtering capabilities to access more relevant content.
What’s the goal? Getting directly to the best content quickly and easily. The Platform makes it possible for fans to add events they’re planning to participate in, and for event owners – to claim such profiles and then provide additional information services on the Platform: edit Q&A, define and promote the event offer, provide event navigation based on iBeacons and enable fans to shop online during the event. The solution is to be released soon. For more information visit eFAN. You can also subscribe there to be the first to test it. Let us know what you think!
