Fusionetics is a human performance company that works in the world of sports medicine by utilizing science and technology in order to prevent injuries, enhance recoveries, and train athletes to the best of their performance potential. The company is the brainchild of Dr. Michael Clark, while the study of fusionetics stems from over a decade of research, field-testing and the quest to define what it means to be injury-free, and how to accomplish such a feat. To do so, Fusionetics calls upon the expertise of Dr. Clark, and other sports medical professionals, scientists, coaches, and athletes, to improve athletic performance.
The Fusionetics human performance system is used in a variety of ways. In the words of Dr. Clark: “We created the system with elite athletes, but we’ve been able to use the system with youth athletes, military personnel, so we can cover the gamut, because the human body functions as an integrated unit whether you’re eight years old, or eighty-eight years old, and the Fusionetics system can help you accomplish whatever your goal is.”
With Fusionetics, as Dr. Clark explains, “everything is evidence based and driven by the sports side.” As a result, sports doctors, trainers, coaches, athletes, and individuals who serve in the military are able to determine exactly how to optimize their performance by an impressive 30% while also cutting down on the time needed to recover from previous injuries.
Dr. Clark continued: “We spend 1.4 trillion on health care, with 900 billion going towards musculoskeletal injuries. That’s more than heart disease, cancer and diabetes combined. The majority of cases of pain and overuse injuries that adults suffer from are 75-80% preventable.” The study of fusionetics has taught the sports medical field that contributing factors of injury risk include previous injury history, movement efficiency, training load, and recovery behaviors; for example, how well a person follows specific recovery instructions. Fusionetics helps prevent these injuries in the first place by providing strengthening and stretching exercises for individuals that improve their overall performance, including improved speed, agility and strength. What it comes down to is quite simple: through the use of the fusionetics system, clients come away with a properly aligned body that is capable of fluid movement, improved performance, and a decreased risk of further injury, whether the individual is serving the military, competing in athletics at a professional level, or a freshman college sports player.
Currently, the Fusionetics performance lab has been catering exclusively to the professional and collegiate level athlete. However, the company has created three different programs that will be available as soon as this coming summer for all clients to use.
The way it works: clients fill out a 3-minute movement efficiency test, adapted from the 7-minute test used for professional athletes. The movement efficiency test provides an overall movement efficiency score and diagnoses weak areas in the body’s movement capabilities. In addition, a practitioner creates a self-care program with suggestions and assessments for improvement.
The first program offered creates the program based off of a questionnaire the client fills out online. The second program has clients do an assessment from home, with the use of either a friend or mirror. Clients may also watch video clips from the Fusionetics website, which helps to determine how each individual moves. Once the assessment results have been sent in, a practitioner from Fusionetics will create a program for the client. The third and most advanced of the programs requires that clients go into the Fusionetics lab, in order to run through the questionnaire and movement efficiency test in person, in front of a practitioner who can subsequently discuss the results and provide a program for the client to use. Poor movement control leads to injuries, and movement impairments lead to a diagnosed injury. The Fusionetics company steps in to analyze movement and target a solution.
This blending of science, sports and technology will help anyone looking to improve their performance, so that the high school kid playing on a football team can feel as strong, agile and healthy as a professional ball player.
