Here’s The Technology Behind That Holographic Bayern Munich Press Conference

Less than two weeks ago, Bayern Munich conducted a live hologram news conference as the perennial Bundesliga team announced participating teams for the upcoming 2017 Audi Cup, with the back-end technology being powered by ARHT Media.

To announce the teams for the two-day preseason football tournament, coaches Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool FC) and Diego Simeone (Atlético Madrid) appeared as live holograms while Munich’s Carlo Ancelotti was physically present. The beamed-in experience saved the former two coaches nearly 15 hours of travel time.

“Well, it’s a bit strange to be honest,” Klopp said at the conference. “Generation-wise, I’m somebody who watched Starship Enterprise, and I feel as if I’ve been to Munich. It’s new, but the quality seems to be good.”

ARHT, which is the creator behind human holograms that it calls HumaGrams, also partnered with Brands and Emotions to orchestrate the real-time digital experience. With the use of its augmented reality holographic telepresence platform, ARHT made it feel as though the two coaches were physically in the room as spectators could literally hear their breathing.

“On May 12, 2017, ARHT reached a significant milestone and successfully executed the first holographic press conference in the world,” Rene Bharti, Founder and Chairman of ARHT Media said in a statement. “We are setting the stage for how people everywhere engage and interact with key influencers in nearly every sector including sport, healthcare, technology, hospitality, transportation, education and retail.”

Added Thomas Glas, Head of Sports Marketing for AUDI AG in a statement: “We’re pleased to have worked with the team at ARHT Media, and use their holographic telepresence technology during our press conference announcing the Audi Cup. The realistic nature of the holograms was amazing. It was as though Jürgen Klopp and Diego Simeone were actually there in person and journalists had no problem interacting with the holograms. This technology is truly unique and helped save a great deal of travel time and schedule coordination for our speakers.”
