As if looking down at your phone to access information wasn’t convenient enough, sports fans may be able to access information in an even easier way in the future. Google Glass and K-Glass give users a new perspective of the world by allowing them to do things a phone would be used for through eyewear.
Google Glass has a simple and clean design that makes the eyewear lightweight and easy to wear. The device allows 12GB of storage for users to save their photos, videos, and other data. Google Glass will also push the content to the user’s Google+ account, but information can be put on a USB port.
Google Glass is in its early stages, but the device has the capability to perform every main task that a cell phone can. Currently, the device comes with Google+, Gmail, Google Now, and Path.
On Google Glass, users can do the following:
-Check the time
-Take pictures or video
-Use Google Hangout to share what you can see through your glasses with friends
-Get directions
-Translate
-Use Google’s version of Siri to ask questions
Though Google Glass was the first device of its kind, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) isn’t far behind.
KAIST has developed the K-Glass, their rendition on Google Glass. The two devices share many similar features, but K-Glass has already improved or fixed the problems that have been associated with Google Glass.
One example of this is the processing speed. Developers state that the processing speed of K-Glass is 30 times faster than that of Google Glass and has the capability to duplicate the ability of the human brain to process visual data. The battery on K-Glass also has a substantially longer life than Google Glass.
Sports World Potential
Google Glass would be ideal for sports fans that are looking for sleek headwear, unlike the K-Glass, which is still fairly bulky. For example, a sports fan sitting at a baseball game would want a device that could easily fit over their sunglasses, which Google Glass is capable of. With the K-Glass being bulkier and a little heavier, fans may not be able to wear the device along with their sunglasses, or they may not want to deal with the extra bulk of the K-Glass as opposed to the Google Glass.
Using the Google Glass version of Siri could also enable fans to easily check the game scores and news regarding their favorite teams. If a fan is sitting at a New Orleans Saints football game in the middle of their race to the playoffs, that fan can easily access the results of the Carolina Panthers game or other division rivals.
K-Glass is still far away from commercialization, but sports fans should look at purchasing either of these devices for use down the road. However, at this point Google Glass would probably be the wiser choice for sports fans. With its sleeker design and ability to fit over sunglasses while sitting at a game, Google Glass gives sports fans the ability to go deeper into the sports world in an intuitive and efficient way.
Both Google Glass and K-Glass are in their early stages of development, but as both devices become more established and a part of everyday life, sports fans will have a more convenient way to catch the latest sports news and connect with their favorite teams.
