Stephen Curry is a techie, through and through. He’s the top NBA player on social, offers MasterClass basketball courses and is a major proponent of virtual reality. His newest venture involves showing children the value of computer science through code.org’s #HourOfCode.
The campaign gets children learning and enjoying coding from an early age. They do this by offering “Hour of Code” online tutorials, which are designed for all ages. You can create your own app using JavaScript, program Star Wars’ droids or make your own sports game.
Curry and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson are among the celebrities who’ll each do a 10-to-15-minute video chat with the winning class that creates an app, game or design and displays the project on social media.
“The value in learning computer science is pretty evident just because, you know, how important tech is in our world,” Curry said in a Code.org video. “Opportunities are endless for somebody who’s just getting into computer science because that’s a job that’s in high demand right now.”

As well as offering courses, code.org provides tools and resources like App Lab for the classroom. It’s here that kids will learn coding basics like HTML and CSS.
Curry isn’t the only athlete encouraging kids to learn the importance of coding. Code.org also features his teammate Draymond Green, Serena Williams, Kobe Bryant, Chris Bosh, Neymar Jr. and many others.
